In the Garden

Basically the whole island of Crete is a beautiful garden. Here I am in Ireni's garden with the master gardener herself. Ireni co-owns our sweet hotel with her husband Dionysis here in Agia Palagia. She has huge oregano plants, basil, succulent cactus and of course geraniums of all colors growing like wonderful weeds up all the walls and down all the stairs. We feel like family here. Dionysis just offered us a drink of his father's home-made Raki, a local equivalent of baccanora or moonshine.

  1. Oh how we remember the Iraqi . . . purported to be magical, medicinal, and cure what ails ya! Amazing that they boil what's left of the vine after the wine, to make it. Watch out, Gordon! You'll be opening a factory making it yourself.
